Focusing on South Carolina
March 2010
Focus:
Allendale Coutny
On February 17, 2010 the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute released county health rankings for every state in the nation. Each state in the nation, including South Carolina, has the opportunity to see which counties in their state rank highest and lowest in measures of health outcomes (length and quality of life) and health factors (health behaviors, access to and quality of clinical care, social and economic factors and the physical environment). Allendale County ranks 38th of 46 SC counties in health outcomes, and last (46th) in health factors.
Allendale County’s “It’s All About You!” Community Health team views these rankings as a call to action for all in the community to encourage dialogue and coordination across all sectors for community health improvement. The full South Carolina Summary Report is available, and an interactive map and other information regarding South Carolina's rankings may be found here. Please visit http://www.countyhealthrankings.org for more information.
SCPHI, with support from the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) is collaborating with the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is partnering with the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control and the Allendale County “It’s All About You!” Community Health Team to sponsor a community-wide forum on March 25, 2010 and publicize the data and community response. Forum participants will discuss current projects and help develop solutions for identified challenges. Additionally, focus groups are being scheduled with groups and communities to provide additional, in-depth insight and suggestions on how as a community Allendale can work together to improve health and quality of life.
Please check this space often, as information on the forum will be updated. Updates will also be shared through the SCPHI page on Facebook.
