SCPHI co-sponsored the forum “Long-Term Care in South Carolina: A Look to the Future,” with the AARP – South Carolina Chapter and the Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging on Thursday, April 30 2009.  Hosted on the SC State House Grounds in Columbia, the Forum engaged 45 attendees including legislators, legislative staff, advocates, state agency representatives, and individuals from non-profit organizations.

The forum highlighted the importance of long-term care in light of the growing older adult population.  The need for accessible home and community-based services was explored, along with other essential components of a comprehensive long-term care system.  The impact of long-term care costs—particularly on state budgets—was highlighted as a key component of a much-needed strategic plan for how our state will accommodate the future needs of our older adult population.
