Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership

The Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership (IHPL) is a comprehensive, capacity building educational program designed specifically for HIV prevention program managers who work in community-based organizations (CBOs) serving minority populations. Over the past decade, IHPL has graduated over 300 HIV prevention program managers from across the United States and its territories.  IHPL has resulted in excellent relationships with community-based HIV care and prevention providers across the nation, including within South Carolina.

Perinatal Awareness for Successful Outcomes (PASOs)

PASOs is a multi-tiered program with the mission to foster and support a culture of perinatal health in the Latino immigrant communities of SC through improving access to care, helping new immigrants navigate the American health care system, and empowering families to preserve positive behaviors and promote perinatal health within their social and cultural context.

The program involves educational interventions for Spanish-speaking expectant parents, culturally appropriate community outreach, cultural awareness training for medical providers, and advocacy for increased access to health care for the immigrant population. Through the partnership with SCPHI, this program is the currently expanding beyond the Midlands region of South Carolina to other areas of the state with significant Latino populations.

Forums and Publications

SCPHI is convening a series of forums, in conjunction with key partners, to examine critical public health issues facing South Carolina. The intent of these forums is to draw upon subject-matter experts from across South Carolina and the nation and bring together diverse individuals and organizations to examine aspects of priority issues as they relate to improving the health and quality of life of South Carolinians. These forums serve as a venue for thoughtful debate and information exchange. The proceedings will be developed into white papers or other publications that will be made available to expand the dialogue and support practical solutions to these important issues.
