As a recognized leader in public health, Dr. Donna Richter has focused her career on seeking solutions to the health challenges impacting our communities, our state and our nation. Through her work, she has consistently emphasized the fundamental tenet of community empowerment as a vital element in promoting effective community interventions. Dr. Richter has applied this approach in her leadership roles on numerous research and training grants covering a full spectrum of public health concerns. Her work has addressed critical issues ranging from public health preparedness to HIV prevention. In her former role of dean of the USC Arnold School of Public Health, Dr. Richter worked to promote a bold research and practice agenda and to strengthen the important link between the university and its community partners. As executive director of the South Carolina Public Health Institute, she is forging new ground in promoting progressive health policy in South Carolina and working to convene both traditional and non-traditional partners. In all of her work, Dr. Richter maintains a keen focus on enhancing the lives of South Carolinians by promoting improved health and quality of life.
